Zantac is most commonly prescribed by doctors for heartburn. But over the last few years, there has been a growing concern about Zantac causing cancer. As of April 2020, the FDA has requested all forms of over-the-counter ranitidine drug prescription like Zantac be removed. Following the FDA order, all major pharmacies in the US have immediately pulled of ranitidine and have stopped selling it or banned it altogether.

The FDA has also advised that all those who have been consuming ranitidine or Zantac immediately stop taking the medication and consult their doctor as soon as possible. Zantac has been a preferred medication for pregnant women to treat heartburn. However, this FDA warning has raised huge concerns about Zantac potentially being dangerous for pregnant women.

Why Should Pregnant Women Stop Using Zantac?

NDMA is a chemical that naturally occurs in certain kinds of food and water. Zantac is found to have exceeding high levels of NDMA that could be carcinogenic. Although enough information is still not available about the type of cancer that can be caused by high levels of NDMA, Zantac consumption is associated with cancer of the throat, nasal tract, lung, brain, kidney, liver, breasts, thyroid, prostate, intestine, pancreas, esophagus, stomach, ovaries, testicles uterus, or leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

Pregnancy causes acid reflux in most women as stomach acids to flow back to the esophagus since pregnancy hormones relax the muscle walls of the stomach. As Zantac is an acid reducer, it has been consumed by pregnant women to treat their acid reflux and subsequent heartburn. However, now pregnant women are being recommended to immediately stop taking Zantac based on the recent FDA warnings and cancer lawsuits. As pregnant women and the fetus may be sensitive and at risk of unknown health complications due to chemical or environmental changes, it is best to avoid consuming Zantac. If you are someone who has consumed Zantac while being pregnant, contact the doctor who has prescribed the medicine immediately and discontinue using Zantac.

Have You Been Diagnosed with Cancer After Consuming Zantac?

There are multiple class action lawsuits that are being filed against Zantac holding them responsible for high concentrations of cancer causing NDMA. If you are someone who has consumed Zantac for a long period and has been diagnosed with cancer, it is recommended to seek legal assistance by contacting a Zantac settlement lawyer immediately. If you believe that your cancer is a result of taking Zantac, you may be eligible to receive financial compensation for your damages.

How Can A Good Zantac Settlement Lawyer Assist You?

New information continues to come forward each day as to whether NDMA found in Zantac is indeed carcinogenic. However, it is best to avoid being exposed to Zantac based on the warnings issued by the FDA. If you are suffering from cancer caused by the consumption of Zantac, you can file a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer of Zantac with the help of an experienced lawyer. A good Zantac settlement attorney, like the ones at Riddle and Brantley, can assist you in fighting for your legal rights so that you receive the compensation that you rightfully deserve for your sufferings.
